WHY I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT MY
Beyer DT100 Headphones
Why did you buy it?
When I'm not diving, I'm drumming. The drum kit makes so much noise that regular headphones are next to useless. Imagine straining to hear a baby whisper important information to you as a jet plane takes off -- that's the dilemma I'm faced with when trying to hear a backing track. These Beyer DT100s are closed-back studio headphones, which means they block out just enough enough of the noise from the drumkit for me to hear what I'm keeping time with.
What does it do for you?
They deliver a crisp, clear sound that can't be beaten by any other headphones I've tried. The only thing is, you have to be careful with them, because they don't distort even at high volume. Where ordinary headphones would begin to compress the sound at high volumes, the DT100s won't give you much clue that you're listening at dangerous volumes -- the key is to watch those levels.
Would you recommend it to others? Why?
If you work with sound in an environment with lots of background noise, I would recommend the DT100s. Places like the BBC have used them for years and they're standard issue in any recording studio. They're not particularly elegant looking, but they're built to last. If you're just going to listen to Coldplay on the bus, these headphones are definitely overkill though.
