How to perfect your pictures
(May 09, 2005)
Step 1 Getting started
Back in 1988, Elton John sang the words, "You can't argue with the image. The camera never lies." The camera still doesn't lie, but you can now argue with what it says if the truth hurts. Here's a quick look at five common photographic truths you may wish to bend, with the help of a widely used photo-editing application, Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Photoshop Elements 3.0 has all the tools an enthusiast needs for organising, editing, and sharing photos. On the organisational front, the program offers tools such as hierarchical tagging and stacking of similar images within the File Browser. In addition to the standard Photoshop editing tools, Elements 3.0 also offers SmartFix options with before and after comparisons for operations such as red-eye removal, removing colour casts, and adjusting brightness. It also features a variation on one of the most useful tools in Photoshop, the Healing Brush, which smooths blemishes and wrinkles. You can also create WMV-format slide shows, burn VCDs, and upload your shots to Adobe Photo Services. All in all it's a great piece of software to help you perfect your pictures, so let's get started.
